- Ice maker and water valve check, with water filter replacement if you supply or request one
- A written note of anything that looks close to failure
Why the condenser matters so much here
The condenser is the coil that releases heat from inside your refrigerator into your kitchen. When it is covered in dust and pet hair, it cannot release that heat, and the compressor works longer and hotter to compensate. Las Vegas makes this worse in two ways: indoor air carries a lot of fine desert dust, and summer kitchen temperatures stay high. A dirty condenser is behind a large share of the "not cooling" calls we receive between May and September.
Recommended schedule
| Refrigerator type | Condenser cleaning |
|---|---|
| Built-in with top-mounted condenser (Sub-Zero, Viking, Thermador) | Every 6 months |
| Freestanding refrigerator in the kitchen | Every 12 months |
| Any refrigerator in a garage, or a home with pets | Every 6 months |
Frequently asked questions
Can I clean the condenser myself?
Yes, on most freestanding refrigerators. Unplug the unit, remove the bottom front grille or the rear access panel, and use a condenser brush and vacuum. On built-ins, the grille on top is removable, but be careful around the fan blade and fins. If you are not comfortable doing it, our maintenance visit covers it.
When is the best time for maintenance in Las Vegas?
April or May, before the first 100°F days.
