LG linear compressors
Many LG refrigerators use a linear or inverter linear compressor, which is quieter and more efficient than a conventional compressor. A meaningful number of these compressors have failed early, which led to class-action litigation. The typical story: the refrigerator gradually stops cooling, the compressor runs or tries to start, and both compartments warm up.
Before replacing a compressor, we confirm the diagnosis — a failing inverter board, a dirty condenser or a failed fan can mimic a bad compressor. If it is the compressor, we check whether LG's extended compressor warranty covers the part. When it does, you may pay only for labor.
Other common LG repairs
- Ice maker not making ice or freezing up in the door ice compartment
- Water dispenser not working — frozen line, valve or filter
- Fresh-food section warm — evaporator fan, defrost failure or damper
- Clicking or buzzing — compressor start problems or fan contact
- Error codes such as fan or sensor errors on the display
Frequently asked questions
Is my LG compressor covered by warranty?
LG has offered extended warranties on linear compressors in many models, often covering the part for up to 10 years. Coverage terms vary by model and purchase date, so check with LG using your serial number. We can help you identify the model and serial.
Should I repair or replace an LG with a bad compressor?
If the compressor part is covered, repair usually makes sense. If it is not covered and the refrigerator is older than about eight years, replacement may be better. We give you both numbers.
