How to use these pages
- Write down the exact code and your model number (on a label inside the fresh-food compartment).
- Look it up on your brand's page above. Code lists vary by model and year; the tech sheet inside your refrigerator, often behind the bottom front grille, is the final word for your model.
- Power-cycle once. Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker for five minutes. A code that returns points to a real fault.
- Check food temperatures with a thermometer: 40°F or below in the fresh-food section, 0°F in the freezer.
An error code tells you which circuit reported a problem, not always which part failed. A fan code can mean a bad motor, ice on the blade, a wiring fault or a control board. That is why we test before replacing parts.
Brands without a code page
Thermador, Bosch, Gaggenau, Miele, Liebherr, Viking, Fisher & Paykel and Dacor refrigerators report faults through alarms, service indicators or codes that are read in a technician diagnostic mode. Their meanings vary widely between series and production years, so we don't publish generic lists that could send you in the wrong direction. If your luxury refrigerator shows an alarm or code, call us with the exact display and model number.
GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram display alerts on some models, and many GE refrigerators report faults through the control board rather than the display. Call us with what the display shows.
Frequently asked questions
Should I reset my refrigerator when it shows an error code?
One reset is fine: unplug it for five minutes and plug it back in. If the code returns, resetting again will not fix it. The part named by the code needs testing.
Does an error code mean my refrigerator needs a new control board?
Usually not. The board reports faults for fans, sensors, heaters and the ice maker. Those parts fail far more often than the board itself.
