Step 1: find the model prefix
The model number is on a label inside the fresh-food compartment, usually on a side wall or the ceiling. It looks like 795.72xxxxxx or 106.5xxxxxxx. The three digits before the dot identify the manufacturer.
Step 2: use that manufacturer's codes
| Prefix | Built by | Code style | Look up codes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 795 | LG | "Er" plus two letters, such as Er FF or Er dH | LG error codes |
| 106 | Whirlpool | "SY" system codes, such as SY EF; "PO" after power loss | Whirlpool error codes |
| 253 | Frigidaire / Electrolux | H1 high temperature, OP / SH sensor faults | Frigidaire error codes |
Other prefixes exist for older models from other manufacturers. Call us with the full model number and we will tell you who made it.
Kenmore Elite models
Many Kenmore Elite French-door refrigerators with 795 prefixes were built by LG and use LG's linear compressor. If an LG-built Kenmore Elite loses cooling without a code, see the compressor notes on our LG page.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find the code list for my Kenmore?
Most refrigerators have a tech sheet tucked behind the bottom front grille or inside a panel. It lists the codes for your exact model. If it is missing, the model prefix tells you which manufacturer's codes apply.
Can you still repair an old Kenmore?
Yes. Because Kenmore refrigerators share parts with Whirlpool, LG and Frigidaire models, parts are usually available. See Kenmore refrigerator repair.
