Common codes
| Code | Meaning | What usually causes it |
|---|---|---|
| H1 / HI | High temperature alarm | A compartment is too warm — after a power outage, a door left open, or a real cooling failure |
| OP | Open sensor | A temperature sensor (thermistor) or its wiring is disconnected or failed open |
| SH | Shorted sensor | A temperature sensor or its wiring is shorted |
| SY EF / EF | Evaporator fan circuit error | Failed evaporator fan, ice on the fan, wiring, or the control board |
What to do when you see a code
- H1 / HI: close the doors and wait several hours. If the alert clears and temperatures recover, it was temporary. If the alert keeps returning, the refrigerator is not keeping up — see refrigerator not cooling.
- OP or SH: power-cycle once. A sensor fault that returns needs the sensor and wiring tested. Sensors are inexpensive; the board is rarely the problem.
- SY EF: listen for the fan. Grinding means ice; silence means the motor or its circuit has failed.
Frequently asked questions
Is H1 on a Frigidaire refrigerator a serious problem?
Not always. It is a temperature alert, not a part failure. It becomes serious if it keeps returning or the compartment does not cool back down within a few hours.
Do Electrolux refrigerators use the same codes?
Frigidaire is an Electrolux brand, and many models share electronics and codes. Check the tech sheet for your exact model.
